What are the benefits of CBD in skincare?
It’s the 4 A’s:
anti-inflammatory - anti-oxidant - anti-ageing – anti-bacterial
are all benefits of CBD when applied to the skin. Add cosmeceutical active ingredients and you have a power house of skincare.
we are not reinventing the wheel – we are just upgrading the tyres!
so is cbd a big deal then?
More people than ever are incorporating CBD into their lives. It is no coincidence that the UK CBD market is currently worth £300 million – a figure that is expected to more than triple in the next five years. That equates to a £1 billion market by 2025. That is huge growth and big business for a little country like us here in the UK! The US is forecast to be $25 billion. You don’t get that sort of growth for no reason!
Ok, tell me some facts…
what is cbd?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, this is a compound found in the resinous flower of a cannabis plant.
CBD can be taken in many ways including vaping, tinctures, capsules, edibles and topicals. For Grass Roots Skin® it’s all about the topicals. (for us normal folk, that means the stuff you put on your skin!)
Ok, let’s get mildly scientific for a moment… In 1988 the first cannabinoid receptor was discovered in the brain of a rat, fast forward to 1995 and researchers found that these receptors were also in humans.
Cut a long scientific story and years of clinical trials, extremely short… researchers found a signalling system between receptors in our bodies and receptors in the cannabis compounds which they called endocannabinoids.
This signalling system is now officially named the Endocannabinoids System, aka ECS. Our bodies are intended to work with cannabinoids. One could even say that scientific research shows it is essential!
will i get high?
The part of the cannabis plant that affects the psychosis of the mind and gives the feeling of being high is from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body. CBD does not get you high and in particular, the part we use from the plant, ISOLATE (more on that below) has NO trace of THC at all. You will not get high.
The cannabis plant has actually been used as a form of medicine going back thousands of years! The first reported medicinal use was 2900 BC in Ancient China. It has even been theorised that hemp may have been the first agricultural crop, ever, in civilisation!
what types of cbd are there?
Full Spectrum – Contains all the cannabidiols from the plant and includes -0.3% of THC
Broad Spectrum – Contains all the cannabidiols from the plant with the THC removed.
Isolate – Contains 99.9% Pure CBD with 0% THC.
What type of CBD do you use in Grass Roots Skin?
We use CBD Isolate. The clue is in the name, the CBD has been isolated and is just pure CBD with no THC at all.
Interesting, tell me more?
A great deal of skin conditions derive from inflammation and CBD has great anti-inflammatory properties – which help to soothe the skin and reduce redness. Acne sufferers hail the benefits as CBD not only reduces inflammation and redness, but also inhibits overactive oil production.
However, don’t let that influence you into thinking it is not suitable for dry skin. CBD helps to retain moisture and encourages cells to repair – making it perfect for all skin types.
The anti-oxidants found in CBD repair cells and encourage collagen reproduction which results in visibly reduced lines – making it the new super hero in anti-aging skincare.
Rosacea, Psoriasis and Eczema sufferers can all benefit from the active properties of CBD Isolate. The healing and soothing qualities repair dry, sore and flaking skin.

Another Fun Fact…
In the 1500s, growing hemp was actually law. All farmers in England were required to grow the hemp plant and if they didn’t produce the plant, they copped a fine! They knew back then that this plant was something amazing.
